Warum werden Menschen, die der deutsche Staat abschieben möchte, vor der Abschiebung eingesperrt? Abschiebungshaft ist eine besondere Haftform, bei der die Hürde für Freiheitsentziehungen besonders niedrig angesetzt ist: Es reicht, wenn die Ausländerbehörde behauptet, dass Menschen sich der Abschiebung entziehen könnten (und das dann gerichtlich abgesegnet wird). Oft wird Abschiebungshaft als „normales Leben minus Freiheit“ beschönigt, praktisch handelt es sich um Knast – mit Betonmauern, Natodraht und vergitterten Fenstern.

Da diese Haftform ausnahmslos Menschen ohne deutschen Pass, oft mit Fluchtgeschichte betrifft, handelt es sich um eine Praxis, die besonders von strukturellem Rassismus durchdrungen ist.

In Rheinland-Pfalz gibt es genau einen Abschiebeknast, und zwar in der Mainzer Nachbarstadt Ingelheim. Wenn ihr mehr über den Ingelheimer Abschiebeknast und die Praxis der Abschiebungshaft lernen wollt, kommt zu unserem Vortrag, in Kooperation mit dem Flüchtlingsrat Rheinland-Pfalz.

Why are people who the German state wants to deport locked up before deportation? Deportation Detention is a special form of detention in which the hurdle for deprivation of liberty is set particularly low: it is enough if the immigration authorities claim that people could evade deportation (and this is then approved by the court). Detention pending deportation is often glossed over as “normal life minus freedom”, but in practice it is a prison – with concrete walls, barbed wire and barred windows.

As this form of detention invariably affects people without a German passport, often with a history of flight, it is a practice that is particularly permeated by structural racism.

There is exactly one deportation prison in Rhineland-Palatinate, in the neighboring city of Ingelheim in Mainz.
